Current Schedule

I don't know about you but I am always curious what other moms and their babies schedule look like.  I've been wanting to document our schedule for awhile now but it was never consistent nor could I really call it a "schedule".  It was definitely a free for all for the first few months.  We were both trying to figure each other out.  I, for some reason, really put pressure on myself to get Maggie into a routine.  However, it left both of us pretty frustrated.  I don't think she was really ready to follow much of one until about 4 months.  Ever since then our days have been pretty consistent other then a few off ones here and there.  I know as soon as I write this down it will change (like everything else), but it will be nice to look back on to remember, especially if we ever have any more kids.

It was really hard for me to find a routine.  It took a little bit of what worked for me and what Maggie was wanting/needing.  Everyday always varies a little bit depending on what we are doing but I have a basic idea of when she needs to nap and eat.  So here's a little sample of a typical day.

7:30am - I wake up to pump and get Maggie's bottle ready before she wakes up.  Sometimes she will wake up before me so then I will just breastfeed her, and then pump afterwards as I am usually still pretty "full".

8:00am - I go in to wake Maggie up, change her diaper and then feed her a bottle & give her vitamins.  She is usually still a little sleepy so we will cuddle or she'll play on my lap.  She is so sweet in the mornings and I like to soak that up (and I kiss her a lot). :)  Once she's a little more awake and active we will either play in the jumper or on her activity mat.  We always work on her sitting skills and include tummy time.

9:00am - Since Maggie turned 5 months old we started introducing solids.  Around this time I will give her a little bit of oatmeal cereal and whatever veggie or fruit we are trying out.

9:30am (Sometimes before this) - I will put Mags down for her first nap.  I just look for her cues like rubbing her face, yawning and/or getting a little fussy.  She can only make it about 1.5 to 2 hours between naps still, and less in the morning.  She will nap anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half.  So that will also dictate our schedule for the rest of the day.  During this time is when I will shower and get ready for the day and eat breakfast.  I will also pump.

11:00am - This is when I usually change her into her daytime clothes and then we play some more.  If the weather is nice we will go for a walk.  Most days Ryan will come home for lunch and play with Maggie while I make us some sandwiches.  If he doesn't then I wait until she goes down for her next nap to eat.

11:30am - Feed Maggie her bottle of breast milk.  She eats about every 3.5 hours now.  If I try to do it any sooner she will just "snack" feed.  This is also when I will give her probiotic drops.

12:30pm  - Maggie goes down for another nap.  This is when I will either eat, clean up, blog or do what ever I was needing to get done that day.  I will also pump.

2:00pm - This is typically when we will run errands if we have any.  If we have no place to be then we will play music, sing songs, read books, work on developmental skills and go outside to rock in the glider or swing.  I will also give Maggie a little bit of independent play time while I get some house work done like vacuuming which is hard to do when she's napping.  But she is always in my sights!

3:00pm - Feed Mag's her bottle.

3:30/4:00pm - She goes down for her 3rd and final nap.  This is typically her shortest nap for the day.  I pump and relax a little bit.

5:00pm - I always make sure she is up by 5 so it doesn't mess up her bedtime.  I will also offer her another bottle.  I sort of cluster feed during the evening to get her nice and full before bed time.  :)

5:30/6:00pm - Ryan gets home and plays with her while I figure out dinner.  He will also feed her her evening solids.

7:00pm - We start her bedtime routine.  We give her a bath every other night.  She loves this time and we let her play a little bit in the water.  Then we change her into her pj's, dim the lights and feed her the last bottle of breast milk.

7:30/8:00pm - We put Maggie to bed.  Then it's mommy & daddy time!

  1. I loved reading about a day in the life of Miss Maggie! When did she start taking two day naps? Grey is still taking 4 total (3 during the day and a short one in the evening)...I would like to consolidate her day ones into two, but I'm not sure if she's ready?!

  3. Sounds like a great routine to me! I forgot how much little babies sleep, ha! You might have mentioned this before, but I was curious since you are home with her, how come you don't just breastfeed but instead pump/bottle feed?
