We have a name!!

Ryan & I finally made a decision on our baby girl's name!!  Somebody please give me a high five!  I even made it official by ordering a stroller blanket with her named monogrammed.  Now we definitely can't go back!  We've had a top two names for a long time but debated every angle we could possibly think of.  I had no idea how hard it was going to be to chose a name.  It's so permanent!  I didn't want to scar her with a name that could rhyme with something awful or have people misspell it or pronounce it wrong for the rest of her life.  I'm still a little scarred myself over my name!  People always spell it wrong, and when I say my name over the phone people think I'm saying Leslie or I even got Lumpy once!!  Whaaaa??!!

We also wanted her name to be meaningful to us and at least have some kind of family tie.  As it turns out, her name is full of meaning and family ties.  And I LOVE it!!  So are you guys ready for the big reveal??

Maggie:  (meaning - "Pearl")  This name has been one that Ryan & I have always liked.  It's been on our list of possibilities even when we were first married and just for fun would toss around names.  I've always liked the name Margaret and especially because it's my mom's middle name (Mary Margaret).  Maggie is short for Margaret so it also honors my mom!  That is what sealed the deal for me.  I like the fact that it's an old time classic but not over popularized.  Ryan was actually the final say in picking this name in the end.  It was his favorite too.

Elizabeth:  (meaning - "God's promise")  We went back and forth between middle names for awhile.  But ultimately we chose Elizabeth because it's beautiful but mainly because of the family ties.  My Grandmother's (my dad's mom) middle name is Elizabeth but it was left off her birth certificate back in the day.  So she never officially had a middle name.  A lot of my cousins have been naming their first born daughter's middle name Elizabeth to honor her, and I wanted to do the same thing.  She is my last grandparent still living, and she was like a second mom to me growing up.  I would love nothing more to honor this great lady!  The other family tie to this name is through my mom's aunt, so my Great Aunt Mary (who my mom is named after).  I loved this lady so much growing up.  She was like a third grandma to me.  Her middle name is also Elizabeth!  Both of these ladies sealed the deal for me on this name.  I would say that I had the final say on the middle name.  ;)

Our daughter's full initials will be MEE.  I love that this also has family meaning to Ryan & I.  His grandmother on his mom's side went by the name of Meme (might have been spelled Mimi).  She passed away at an early age when Ryan was in elementary school so I never had the chance to meet her.  However, I feel as though I did because my grandma and her worked together, and were great friends!!  Such a small world.  I will have to tell that story sometime soon. :)  Anyway, with her initials being MEE we both feel like we are honoring Ryan's grandma, Meme too.  So much meaning in this little girls name!!

So now you know how we finally came to a decision on our baby girl's name.  I'm so excited to start calling her by name now!!  Let the monogramming begin baby!!  If you are curious what our runner up name was, it was Berkeley.  We love that name and it still might be a contender for a future daughter (if we're blessed with another).
