I'm Married to a 30 Year Old!

**warning picture overload!**

My hubby's 30th birthday was on Monday, October 29th.  I decided to go all out for this occasion because you only turn 30 once and after our baby girl comes it will be harder to have big celebrations like this for awhile.

We had planed awhile back to take a trip to Vegas with some friends to celebrate Brad & Ryan both turning 30 within a month of each other.  Blogged about that here.  The weekend before Ryan's birthday we were going to be in KC for a Halloween party.  We were finding out the gender of our baby the week prior and decided to tell family & friends in person while we were in Kansas City.  It was then that I came up with the idea for a surprise party for Ryan.  Talk about packing everything into one weekend!

So here was the plan (I love the details!), have the family over to my mom's house around 10am to share the big news (details to come on that), then leave for a somewhat early lunch at Oklahoma Joe's BBQ.  You have to get there early our else you'll be in line for an hour!  Ryan would think this was his only birthday celebration with his family at lunch.
Lunch at Ok Joe's and opening gifts from the family.

An awesome briefcase Ryan's been wanting.  See that big smile? :)

Then, his dad & I took him out to shop for golf clubs and shoes as part of his birthday gift while the girls (and Evan) made excuses to be other places.  But really they were running back to my mom's place to setup for the party!  After Ryan was done shopping we headed back to my mom's for the big surprise.

It was a football/K-State themed birthday party.  Most of the decorations were made by our good friend Victoria (who couldn't be there).  Check out her etsy site here.  She's freaking amazing and so easy to work with!!!

Susan brought some of his baby clothes and pictures to share.

Childhood memories.

It was kind of funny because all our friends thought it meant we were having a boy! lol

Can you imagine this 6'4" man wearing these baby shoes??  Did I mention he was over 10 pounds when he was born??  I am freaking out!! Hopefully this baby will be normal sized. ;)

Outside we setup another one of Ryan's gifts, the bag game.  Ryan's always wanted one and it worked perfectly with our football themed party!

Here's the table setup.  My talented in-laws made the table covering to look like a football field.  It's kind of hard to tell from this picture.

Ryan's birthday cake.  Funny story about this... I totally thought I was ordering the cake from the place where we got our wedding cake over 6 years ago.  I didn't realize until the week of the party that it wasn't the same place!!  Fortunately, the cake still tasted amazing.  Ooops!  Maybe next time I'll get it right.  I also had the cake lady but a layer of icing in the middle to reveal the sex of our baby to our friends when Ryan cut the cake.  (More on that later)

The favors were little jars with personalized M&Ms.

On the M&M website you can personalize the candies to almost anything you want!  I just had, Happy 30th, Ryan's 30! and then a picture of Ryan's face.  Ha!

I loved all the details that Victoria came up with.  I couldn't have done this without all her fabulous ideas!

Ebright Stadium, love all the fun touches.

We even had everyone write down their predictions if our baby was going to be a cheerleader or football player.  How cute is this??

Right after the cake cutting.

Now it's time for pictures of all the friends that could make it.  Unfortunately, a lot of our friends couldn't be there because they were at the K-State game.

We missed you Sean!!

Mom & I

It was a wonderful party and thankfully K-State won their game!!  That was the icing on the cake for Ryan.  Can you believe our Cats are 9-0 and 2nd in the country??  Let's go National Championships!!

Then on Ryan's actual birthday (Monday), I surprised him with a bouquet of balloons at his desk so that everybody in his group knew it was his birthday.
This was him after he brought them home that night.

I also brought cupcakes to work for his birthday slash gender reveal for our coworkers.  (I'll share more about that later.)

Then after work we went out to dinner with some friends that live in Bartlesville with us.
I even got Ryan one more birthday cake!  Sadly, the chocolate was so soft inside that it made the cake slouch. :(  Oh well, you get the idea.  I should have gotten a discount on it. Ha!  But this cake is sooo Ryan.  Mountain Dew is just about the only thing he drinks.

I think the birthday boy still liked the slouching Mt. Dew cake.

Nathan, baby Jaxon, Janet, Lauren, Barry, Ryan, Jill, Kyle, baby Kallie & Chris
(Sara & baby Cam were there but left before I could get a group picture.)

We missed you Kyle, Megan, Matt & Katie!

I think Ryan had a successful and memorable 30th birthday.  All our family & friends made it so special!!

  1. Everything looks AWESOME. It's so perfect for Ryan. So glad I could help!

  2. Ha! I laughed out loud when you said Ryan was over 10 pounds when he was born. Jeremy was almost 10 and I am FREAKING OUT if we get pregnant someday.

  3. Fun celebrations! Vic and I were both over 10 pounds! Does Miss Sally have a male friend?!

  4. How fun is that? Great job planning ;) hopefully we can see you while we are in KC! I want to see that cute bump in person

I'd love to hear from you!
