Bump Watch :: 17 Weeks

17 Weeks

How far along: 17 weeks

Size of Baby: 5.1 in & 5.9 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison: Onion

Total weight gain: 3 pounds

Sleep: Dare I say getting slightly better?  The only thing that's bothering me is my sleep positions.  Before I got pregnant I always slept on my side.  But now, for whatever reason, I find myself waking up on my back!  It freaks me out because they say when you're pregnant to avoid sleeping flat on your back.  People have reassured me that it's fine and just move when I find myself in that position, but it's still a little scary.

Movement: YES!! Still just feeling tiny movements.  A lot of times it feels like a feather tickling me from the inside. Ha!

Unglamorous body changes: I'm feeling a little round ligament pain but that's really about it.

Maternity Clothes? Yes, still just wearing maternity pants and leggings. I found this really great website on Pinterest that links to a whole bunch of maternity stores.  I was struggling finding work appropriate clothes, and I had no idea that Ann Taylor Loft had a maternity line!  Check it out.

Showing: I'm feeling more pregnant now.  I saw my in-laws this past weekend and they commented that I actually look pregnant now.  Woo Hoo!  I still think you can't tell as much in certain clothes though.

Food cravings: Still wanting milk a lot.  I really haven't had very many cravings yet.  My husband has been having more cravings then me!  I am really trying to eat around 80 grams of protein a day but it's so hard!

What I miss: Not missing too much this week.

Strange experiences: No bizarre comments were made to me this week!  And I can't think of anything else out of the ordinary...

Milestones: The baby's rubbery cartilage is now turning to bone, and putting on some fat. It's growing a stronger, thicker umbilical cord, too. (per

Best moment this week: Starting our birthing classes!  Ryan & I signed up for a 12 week class on the Bradley Method.  I still haven't fully decided on our birthing plan but this class is so informative about your body and baby.  I highly recommend taking it, and I'm only 1 class in!  :)

Looking forward to: Finding out what we are having in 2 weeks!!  Also, I can't wait for Ryan to feel the baby kick for the first time.

  2. I love your sweet expression in the photo. You look happy (well, duh of course you are!). I LOVED my birthing classes. We took 8 or 9 and they were the BEST thing I did to prepare for labor and to feel a huge sense of peace about baby's birth day. Good for you! Whatever path you decide, I am sure you will never regret taking your classes.
    You look great, by the way!

  3. You totally shouldn't worry about lying on your back at night yet- the uterus isn't heavy enough yet to be weighing down where it is dangerous. I totally made my self crazy waking up on my back multiple times a night and changing positions until people told me that when it matters more is when you're so big you won't be comfortable on your back anyway. Trust me- just put a pillow behind you, but if you find yourself on your back- don't worry about it right now.

    PS- my craving the whole pregnancy has been milk! It started with the milkshakes, and now has turned into milk. We go through milk like crazy around here now. (like two 1/2 gallons a week!)

  4. Milk is 1 g protein per ounce, so if you've got big cups at home, that'll help. And the milkshakes. We've had a lot of milkshakes from McDonald's. I think I've gained five pounds so far. Also, Jess eats a lot of jerky, where one "serving" is 11 g. Pizza turned out to be a big protein boost too.
