First Business Trip

I thought I should do a quick post about my first business trip in my new job before it gets too far out.  I'm trying to get all my traveling in before I'm grounded in the third trimester.  :)

I was invited out to San Francisco & Sacramento to visit one of my sales reps and several of our customers.  My supervisor joined me since this was my first time on a trip like this.  It was a 4 day whirlwind of driving all over and seeing customers back to back.  I actually stayed in three different hotels over 3 nights!
1st hotel (sorry about the dark picture!)

2nd hotel

3rd hotel

The first day we drove from Sacramento into San Fran.  Along the way I was admiring all the fog hovering over the landscape.  It was all burned off by lunch.  It was actually perfect weather in the 70's and sunny!  I hear October is the best month of the year to visit San Fran, and I would have to agree.

I just had to snap this picture of the semi truck cutting across like 10 lanes of traffic on the highway!!

And this one of a smoking taxi.  Sorry that it's sideways.  I couldn't figure out how to rotate some of these pictures!

The famous winding street of Lombard.  Couldn't pass up driving down it again on this trip!

Last time I was here earlier this year visiting Ryan's cousin, we didn't get a chance to stop by Ghirardeli Square.  So the people I was traveling with were kind enough to let me check it out and of course eat ice cream & buy chocolate!  Can you tell I'm craving sweets?

Another sideways picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Me, Mike (sales rep) & Carolyn (my boss)
This was at the look out point for the bridge and San Fran.

Mike knows my husband so he kept wanting to take pictures of all the good food we were eating and send them to him to make him jealous. Ha!

This had to be my favorite spot we ate at on the trip in Tiburon.

I'm hoping to make it back out to California one more time in November to meet some of my other sales reps and customers.  I'll have to post pictures from that too.  I love California!  Don't think I could afford to live there though. :)

Bump Watch :: 20 Weeks

Half way there!!!

Happy Halloween baby girl!!

How far along: 20 weeks

Size of Baby: 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel & 10.2 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison: Banana

Total weight gain: 4 pounds (I've gained back the 2 pounds I lost last week.)

Sleep: I've been struggling with a little anxiety and it's been sneaking into my dreams recently.  So I've had a few nightmares that have kept me up.  Other then that, it's pretty good.  I still get up once a night to pee and I'm starting to get a little stiff if I sleep in one spot for too long.

Movement: Her movements are definitely noticeable, but still not real consistent.  Every time I feel her kick I put my hand on my stomach to see if I can feel it on the outside and then she doesn't kick again.  So Ryan still hasn't felt her.  :(  But honestly I don't think we've had time lately for him to even try.

Unglamorous body changes: I feel like I can tell that my insides are moving around!  Sometimes I feel a lot of pressure and other times sharp pains.  I can just tell things are moving!

Maternity Clothes? Yep!  I'm already wearing them out.  Time to purchase some more!  It's also been pretty cold lately and my coats can no longer close so I definitely think it's time to invest in a nice warm coat for the season.

Showing: Yes, but I still don't feel like I look all that pregnant sometimes.  I don't know if somedays I'm bigger then others because she's in a different position?

Food cravings: Still sweets and chocolate milk.

What I miss: I miss not having to go to the bathroom every time I stand up.  It's like I don't think I have to go until I stand up.

Strange experiences: I pretty sure I felt the baby kick my bladder for the first time.  That was a strange feeling!

Milestones: She has working taste buds, and she's gulping down several ounces of amniotic fluid each day - practicing swallowing and breathing. (per thebump.com)

Best moment this week: Finding out we are having a GIRL!!!!

Looking forward to: Figuring out her name and planning the nursery.

It's a...

I know this has taken me forever to reveal what the gender of our baby is, but it's been worth the wait!  First of all I want to share the results of the blog poll.  I don't have the exact numbers because it somehow reset towards the end, but I do know the majority vote was for boy.  This surprised me since everybody that I know in person have been guessing girl.

I also had another dream that I was having a boy so I was really confused going into my ultrasound appointment.  Both Ryan & I wore yellow that day since neither one of us really wanted to make a guess on what we thought we were having.  Once we were in the room it all happened so fast!  As soon as the tech put the wand (is that what it's called?) on my belly it was right where you could see the gender.

So were my dreams or my intuition correct...?

My intuition!!!! We are having a baby GIRL!!!!  :)

The most important thing was that everything was healthy from what the tech could tell.  I made him show me everything twice and tell me why it looked healthy.  Ha!  We couldn't get our little girl to move so that we could get a profile picture but that's ok.  I will have to post our ultrasound photos and gender reveals that we did later since I don't have the pictures uploaded yet.

AND It's my husband's 30th birthday today!!  He told me that finding out that we were having a girl was the best birthday gift he's ever received.  I will post about all his birthday festivities later this week too.  So stay tuned for a lot of fun posts to come!

Pre-Birthday Vegas Trip!

I'm posting this trip a little out of order.  I still need to tell you all about my work trip to San Francisco.  I literally got back from that trip on Wednesday night, worked a half day on Thursday, and then flew out on Friday for Vegas!  All of this was going on while we were dealing with the KC situation.  Talk about stressful!

Luckily, our trip to Vegas was shared with some good friends to celebrate Ryan & Brad turning the big 3-0!
It was a quick trip from Friday to Sunday but we packed in a whole lot of fun (even for this pregnant chick).  We were a little late in booking our hotel so the only some what reasonably priced hotel was the Trump Tower.  It was super nice but a little inconvenient as it wasn't right on the strip.  Thankfully they had shuttle buses to drive us to and from.
Can't complain about this room!

Our view out the hotel window (that's why it isn't the greatest picture).

A little kitchenette

TV & Closets

LOVED this bathroom!  Notice the TV in the mirror and the toilet was even enclosed by glass.

Too bad I didn't have time to enjoy this tub...

We got in Friday afternoon and had time to check in before we needed to grab some food.  After walking around a bit, we settled on TAO in the Venetian.  Great atmosphere and delicious food!  Afterwards, we headed out to grab tickets to a show that night.  We wanted to see "O" but that sells out pretty far in advance, and we didn't plan that well.  So Beatles Love Cirque Du Soeil at the Mirage was our second choice.  Our only mistake was not realizing that the time difference was going to effect us so much.  The show started at 9:30pm which was 11:30pm our time.  Needless to say, it was a wonderful show but we were all struggling to stay alert through the whole thing.  I will need to remember not to see a late show the day we get into Vegas!
The next day we all slept in, spent time by the pool, enjoyed a buffet at Caesars Palace, and then hit the streets to explore.  I kept seeing the Sugar Factory everywhere and decided I just had to stop in. ;)  I actually didn't get any candy (because I was always full) but my friend Cynthia spotted a shirt for me.  It said Just Add Sugar!!  How fun is that??  So of course I had to snag it.  I don't have a picture of it yet but I may instagram one when I end up wearing it.

Lindsey & I
I have to say that the Bellagio fountains are my favorite.

You can see the water droplets all over this pic!

I love checking out the seasonal gardens inside.

But it's always so crowded!

Brad & Lindsey

Lindsey, Cynthia & Me (I wasn't wearing heals so I look way short!)
The girls!

Ryan, Me, Brad, Lindsey, Brandon & Cynthia
The only group picture we got was on our last day.

I had to get this on record.  I think this was the only time Cynthia gambled the whole trip when she found her favorite slot machine. Ha!

Since Brad had never been to Vegas we were trying to hit up all the famous spots for him, like the Flamingos!  We actually had a nice outdoor lunch here as well.

They are so awkward they're cute!  Almost cute enough to put a plastic one in my front yard... or not.

Over all, the trip was a blast even for a 19 week pregnant woman.  Granted we planned this trip before I knew I was pregnant, but I still managed to join in on all the fun.  The main downside was trying to stay clear off the smokey casinos.  During the day it wasn't so bad.  I definitely got in my walking exercise!

P.S.  So excited to tell the family this weekend what we're having!  Stay tuned for the big news!

KC

As I mentioned in my previous post, this past week and a half have been very stressful for Ryan & I.  It's actually been one of the toughest weeks we've been through in a long time.  I don't want to go into a lot of detail because to be honest it's really painful to talk about.

As you know our cats, KC & Yogi, are our first babies (I know everybody says it changes after you have a baby).  We are pretty attached to these little guys.  Without going into a lot of detail last Sunday morning Ryan found KC in our laundry room with broken bones and torn ligaments in his back right hind leg.  It involved the door hinge on our front load washing machine.  With the help of a police officer and wonder friends we were able to help KC get to an emergency clinic that morning.  This was all right before I needed to leave on my work trip to San Francisco later that afternoon.  Needless to say I was hysterical, and Ryan was pretty shaken up.  Long story short, we were able to save his leg but he had to have surgery to insert a temporary pin to stabilize the leg and repair ligaments.  KC has a long road of recovery ahead of him and a surgery down the road to remove the pin.  There is still a chance that KC's leg will have to be fused, and he won't be able to move it.  He's been home with us since this Monday (over a week since the accident), and we are trying to help him rest comfortably.

I know in the grand scheme of things this is nothing compared to what other people are experiencing right now.  It's just so hard to see your pet in pain and watch them struggle to recover.  I've been experiencing a lot of anxiety since the accident.  Every time I hear a noise my heart races or if Ryan goes to check on the cats I'm just waiting for him to start yelling for me.  In a small way, I can see how this is preparing us for what's to come with a new baby.  How to better baby proof and to try & better handle anxiety that comes with raising a child.  All and all, we are honestly just lucky to still have KC.

Bump Watch :: 19 Weeks

**I've had a pretty crazy week including some really great stuff and some pretty awful things that happened.  I've been a little stressed to say the least.  I'll fill you guys in shortly.  Just still trying to recover from this past week.  Everything is fine with the baby!**

Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel

How far along: 19 weeks

Size of Baby: 6 in & 8.5 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison: Heirloom Tomato

Total weight gain: 2 pounds (I lost weight this week. I think it was due to stress and lots of traveling.)

Sleep: Still pretty good.  I'm starting to get a little sore if I'm in the same position for too long, especially in my hips.

Movement: Our little peanut is kicking away.  I've started to feel it more consistently.  Though the movement is still not that strong so Ryan still hasn't felt anything yet.

Unglamorous body changes: I can't think of anything this week!  So thankful for a relatively smooth pregnancy.

Maternity Clothes? Yes, I'd say I'm pretty much wearing mostly maternity now.  I still wear non maternity if the shirts are longer.

Showing: I seem really big in this picture!!  I think it's maybe the shirt I'm wearing or that I was on vacation and had downed a lot of food that day. Ha!  I don't think I'm that big yet but it does look like I've popped a bit more.

Food cravings: I have ordered steak a few times this past week which I hardly ever do!  So I guess this week it's been beef!

What I miss: I miss not worrying about how much caffeine I've had in a day.

Strange experiences: Nothing too strange happening over here.  I need to try and come up with something better next week!

Milestones: The baby is developing a protective coating over it's skin, called vernix caseosa, and working on it's five senses. Nerve cells for sense of taste, hearing, sight and smell are developing in the baby's brain.  (per thebump.com)

Best moment this week: Going on two fun trips in one week!  One was a work trip to San Francisco and the second was a friends trip to Las Vegas.  I will definitely be posting all the details soon.  It was fun feeling like I got to bring my baby with me too.  First time it's traveled! :)

Looking forward to: Finding out what we are having tomorrow!!  Then being able to announce to our friends and family this weekend.  I'm just praying that our ultrasound shows a healthy baby more then anything.

Bump Watch :: 18 Weeks

Go State!

How far along: 18 weeks

Size of Baby: 5.6 in & 6.7 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison: Sweet Potato

Total weight gain: 4 pounds

Sleep: Sleep has been pretty good lately.  Just getting up occasionally in the middle of the night still but not bad.

Movement: Still feeling tiny movements.  It's not very regular yet so I'm exited for it to become more consistent.

Unglamorous body changes: On Monday morning after drinking some juice I got sick in the trash can in my office out of the blue!  I guess the juice didn't agree with me, and I haven't had it since.  Then on Wednesday night, Ryan & I picked up some McDonalds on the way to his softball game.  I started to eat the french fries and thought they tasted funny to me.  Then I took one bit of the cheese burger, gagged and spit it out of the car.  I think I'm done with McDonalds for awhile...

Maternity Clothes? Yes, I've started to notice my regular shirts are feeling a little too short and snug for me lately.  I've been transitioning over to maternity tops because they are just so much more comfortable!

Showing: Some angles I look pregnant and other angles I feel like I just look fat.  Ready for a rounder belly!

Food cravings: Still no real cravings, just done with fruit juice and McDonalds (see unglamorous body changes).

What I miss: Ryan had a Cherry Coke the other day and I was so jealous.  Why don't they make those in caffeine free non-diet?

Strange experiences: Probably just having my first food aversions this week.

Milestones: The baby is yawning, hiccuping, sucking and swallowing now.  As well as, twisting, rolling, punching and kicking too. (per thebump.com)

Best moment this week: Hmmm, not too much going this past week.  But I will have to say date night with the hubs!  We're trying to get as many in as possible before our lives are completely changed.

Looking forward to: Finding out what we are having in 1 week!!  Also looking forward to my work trip to San Francisco & our vacation to Vegas for Ryan's 30th birthday all happening next week.  Hopefully that will help make the time go by faster until our doctor's appointment!

Bump Watch :: 17 Weeks

17 Weeks

How far along: 17 weeks

Size of Baby: 5.1 in & 5.9 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison: Onion

Total weight gain: 3 pounds

Sleep: Dare I say getting slightly better?  The only thing that's bothering me is my sleep positions.  Before I got pregnant I always slept on my side.  But now, for whatever reason, I find myself waking up on my back!  It freaks me out because they say when you're pregnant to avoid sleeping flat on your back.  People have reassured me that it's fine and just move when I find myself in that position, but it's still a little scary.

Movement: YES!! Still just feeling tiny movements.  A lot of times it feels like a feather tickling me from the inside. Ha!

Unglamorous body changes: I'm feeling a little round ligament pain but that's really about it.

Maternity Clothes? Yes, still just wearing maternity pants and leggings. I found this really great website on Pinterest that links to a whole bunch of maternity stores.  I was struggling finding work appropriate clothes, and I had no idea that Ann Taylor Loft had a maternity line!  Check it out.

Showing: I'm feeling more pregnant now.  I saw my in-laws this past weekend and they commented that I actually look pregnant now.  Woo Hoo!  I still think you can't tell as much in certain clothes though.

Food cravings: Still wanting milk a lot.  I really haven't had very many cravings yet.  My husband has been having more cravings then me!  I am really trying to eat around 80 grams of protein a day but it's so hard!

What I miss: Not missing too much this week.

Strange experiences: No bizarre comments were made to me this week!  And I can't think of anything else out of the ordinary...

Milestones: The baby's rubbery cartilage is now turning to bone, and putting on some fat. It's growing a stronger, thicker umbilical cord, too. (per thebump.com)

Best moment this week: Starting our birthing classes!  Ryan & I signed up for a 12 week class on the Bradley Method.  I still haven't fully decided on our birthing plan but this class is so informative about your body and baby.  I highly recommend taking it, and I'm only 1 class in!  :)

Looking forward to: Finding out what we are having in 2 weeks!!  Also, I can't wait for Ryan to feel the baby kick for the first time.

Boy or Girl?

I think this has been the most popular question since people have found out we are pregnant.  Everyone asks what we want to have or if we have a feeling if our baby is a boy or a girl.  This is also something that every soon-to-be parent looks forward to finding out whether they wait until the birth or until 20(ish) weeks.  I am one of the one's that can not wait.  I am way too much of a planner to wait the ENTIRE 9 months.  My husband on the other hand probably could wait until the birth but he knows it's best to please the wife.  ;)  When I use to day dream about being pregnant and how many children we were going to have, I always thought it would be great to have a boy first to be the big protective brother and then a girl.  But honestly now, I really don't care either way what we are having.  I'm just so freaking excited to have either one!  Hopefully someday we will have at least one of each, especially since I have a little pressure to have a boy eventually since Ryan is the only boy to carry on the family's last name.

If you know me, you know that I'm not the best with practicing patience.  How do people wait until 20 weeks to find out what they are having??  If my doctor would let me, I would have a sonogram at every appointment so I could see our little one and know everything was fine.  So as you may have guessed, I've researched a ton of old wives' tales on determining the sex of our baby.  I haven't tried them all but I'll fill you in on what we have tired.

  • The first thing that I tired as soon as I found out I was pregnant was the Chinese Gender Chart on thebump.com.  That came back BOY.
  • Then we heard the heart beat.  Apparently, anything over 140 bpm indicates a girl and anything lower is a boy.  Well ours is falling right at that mark so I would have to go with UNDECIDED.
  • Then I did the wedding ring on a string over your belly test.  If the ring circles it's a girl and if it sways back & forth it's a boy.  That came back GIRL.
  • The final test I've done was the store bought gender prediction test.  You basically pee in a cup and if your urine turns green it's a boy and if it turns orange it's a girl.  That came back BOY.
  • So far anyone that has shared their guess with me has been GIRL.  I'm actually surprised that everybody has favored one side so heavily!
  • Finally, Ryan & I's predictions...  Ryan really hasn't said either way.  I think he's easily swayed by other peoples opinion. Ha!  So he's UNDECIDED.  I, on the other hand, have thought it was a GIRL from the beginning.  However, the last week or two I've had two dreams that our baby was a BOY.  So I guess I'm UNDECIDED as well.  It will be interesting to see if my instincts or my dreams were right.
So if you're counting, the predictions are dead even.  I'm posting a poll to the right of my blog for everyone to make their guesses before we find out on October 23rd.  We will be keeping it a secret for a little bit until that weekend where we plan to surprise our family & friends in person.  After that I will definitely be sharing on this blog!  I can hardly wait!!  I feel like knowing the sex of our child will make this that much more real, and we can finally start on the nursery & finalize our name.  So much to look forward to!

Bump Watch :: 16 Weeks

Ok, I promise to post other things besides my weekly bump updates.  It's been a combination of always being out of town, running around or just plain being lazy.  To be completely honest, I'm still trying to get used to the fact that I now live in Oklahoma.  I think it may take me awhile to make our house feel like a home.  Plus, having too many projects to tackle causes me to not finish anything.  I'm totally in a funk.

Another side note, I've decided that I am just going to take these bump pictures whenever I can.  I've had a hard time taking the picture on the same day, same spot and same shirt.  Plus, sometimes I just don't feel cute and the last thing I want to do is take a picture of myself!  I have a feeling I may not keep it up if I try to do that every week.  And Ryan's not a fan of taking pictures so you maybe seeing in your future a lot of bump pictures taken myself from bathroom mirrors.

On to the bump post!

How far along: 16 weeks

Size of Baby: 4.6 in & 3.5 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison: Avocado

Total weight gain: 1 pound

Sleep: Not horrible.  I still find myself waking up throughout the night and having a harder time going back to sleep then I used to.  My mind just starts racing and it's hard to shut it off.  Dang hormones!

Movement: YES!!  This past Monday I was sitting at my desk and I felt what I thought was a muscle twitch.  Then it became more of a tiny poking sensation in my lower abdomen.  It actually kind of tickles!  I've felt something a little bit everyday since.

Unglamorous body changes: I really can't complain in this department.  I know I've described a lot of symptoms I've been experiencing just so I can document them but I've been really lucky so far.  Nothing has been too bad, and I've felt pretty great through this pregnancy so far.  I had one incident of acid reflux that again wasn't really that bad.  It seems like I now gag every time I brush my teeth. Ha!  And is it my imagination or am I already getting wider?!

Maternity Clothes? Yes, still just wearing maternity pants and leggings.  I've been ordering a lot of maternity tops from Gap and Old Navy (so cheap!) getting ready for the time when I will need them.  I ordered a cute t-shirt to wear on Halloween as my costume (I'll show it to you guys when I wear it).  And I haven't really been fitting into my KSU tight fitting tops anymore so I ordered a maternity top that's more like a tent!  Oh well, I'll eventually fit into it by basketball season.  :)

Showing: I feel like I am but I'm definitely in the "is she fat or is she pregnant?" stage.

Food cravings: I really wanted a pot roast with potatoes and carrots this week.  Ryan & I went to the store to get all the ingredients one night and the next day came home during our lunch break to prepare it in the crock pot.  When I got home from work I was expecting this big wave of delicious goodness to hit my nose when I walked in the door but I didn't smell anything.  I went to check on it and it turns out I never even turned the stupid crock pot on!  Everything had to be thrown out..  :(  In my defense, when Ryan asked me to make sure it was on, I saw the green light and thought we were good. Apparently, a green light means it's off and a red light means it's on!!  How confusing is that?!

What I miss: No longer missing Dr. Pepper!!  My husband is the best!  I've been on a hunt for caffeine free (non diet) Dr. Pepper forever.  I know it exists because they advertise it on their website.  Well, on my husband's last work trip to Houston some friends of ours took him to a local grocery store there and they actually had it!  So my sweet, sweet husband packed three 12 pack cases in his carry on luggage to take home with him!  I think it had to weight 75 pounds!!  I've been a very happy camper all week long.  :)

Strange experiences:  You know how everybody tells you people make rude/inappropriate comments to pregnant women?  It never crossed my mind that it could possibly happen to me... Well it totally did.. TWICE!  I was at the grocery store checking out when I could tell the lady at the counter was checking out my belly.  I thought she was trying to decide if I was pregnant or not (I had a tighter shirt on).  She finally asked if I was pregnant (which I still don't you should ever ask somebody that!!) and I told her yes I was.  Then she asked "well you're not due soon are you??"   !!!!  I was like no... I have a long time to go but thanks for asking.  Then when I ran home over lunch one day I ran into our house cleaner who had been seeing baby related items laying around and asked me if I was pregnant.  Then she proceeded to look at my belly and ask "it's not twins is it??"  !!!  What is up with people sometimes??

Milestones: The baby can now listen to my voice because tiny bones have formed in it's ears.  The baby is growing hair, lashes & eyebrows, and it's forming taste buds.  (per thebump.com)

Best moment this week: Feeling the baby move for the first time!!  And being able to drink Dr. Pepper again (caffeine free).
Looking forward to: Feeling the baby move even more, getting bigger so I no longer look "fat" and finding out what we are having in 3 weeks!!  The count down is on!  I'll be posting a poll later this week where people can make their guesses.
