Be My Valentine

Wow, I've really fallen off the face of the planet on here.  Apparently I needed a blogger break, but I've still been reading all of your guys stuff!  I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and have a few posts up my sleeve for this week.  Hopefully I can get my stuff together and produce those posts! :)

I thought this little questionnaire I saw floating around the blogosphere would help get me back into writing.  I know it's a little late to be posting about V-day but I still want to remember it next year when I look back.

1. How long have you & your significant other been together?

Let's see... well, we started dating on December 17th, 2004.  So how long is that?? 7 years and 2 months??

2. How did you meet? {What’s your love story?}

This is kind of a funny story.  We met when I was over at his fraternity house while participating in a Pi Phi / DU function.  I saw one of my friends (Graham shout out!) while over there and he happened to be on his way to his buddy's room to give him a piece of his mother's famous carrot cake.  He wanted me to tag along so we could catch up so I walked the flight of stairs to his friends room.  You all probably know that it ended up being Ryan's room that we were headed to.  When I first saw him his smile was what jumped out to me and his height.  :)  We just talked for a few minutes but I'll never forget that moment.  Later, Ryan told me that he was trying to keep us there longer by eating the cake in front of us even though he doesn't like carrot cake, and apparently I saw a snow board on someones wall & he tried to act like he knew all about it.  Even though he had never had been snow boarding a day in his life. Ha! Love that man.

3. If married, how long have you been married?

5 years and 9 months

 4. If you are married, where did you get married? Big or small wedding?

We got married in Kansas City, MO at Colonial Presbyterian Church where I attending growing up.  I'd say it was a medium to large wedding, 150 people total?

 5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another?
Mainly just Babe.  I like to tease him sometimes by calling him by our last name.  :)

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.

1. I love how sweet and kind he is.  Everybody keeps saying that they can't imagine Ryan ever getting mad or raising his voice.  It takes a lot for him to lose his cool.  That's very good for me because I tend to be a bit fiesty.  ;)
2. He is so thoughtful and caring.  He's always looking out for me and trying to think of special things to do together.  He always puts me before himself.  That's something I'm always striving to do for him as well.
3. We are best friends.  We know the good, the bad and the ugly about each other and still love one another for it.  He is my rock and support system, and I can't imagine spending one day without him.

7. Tell us how he proposed?

He proposed on our 6 month dating anniversary.  (I know!! Crazy right?!)  We meet in Kansas City for a date night.  I was in Manhattan, KS taking summer classes and he was in Bartlesville, OK for an internship.  When I got to my mom's house he was already there waiting for me all dressed up.  When we walked outside to drive to dinner a limo was parked out front waiting for us.  I didn't even realize it was for us at first. Ha!  Ryan took me to one of my favorite restaurants, The Melting Pot, and we had our own private room.  There were roses waiting for me and they even took our picture and framed it.  After dinner when we walked outside a carriage ride was waiting for us to take us around the Plaza.  It was the perfect night.  I obviously knew something was up, especially because he was hauling around a bag the whole time, and seemed really nervous.  I kept waiting for him to "pop the question" all night.  After the carriage ride he took me down to Brush Creek to walk along the water.  By this point my feet were killing me from wearing high heels and I asked if we could sit down for a bit.  That's when he decided to take his bag out and present me with a frame.  He had written out the proposal already and had it framed.  He got down on one knee and ask me to marry him.  Right then a gay couple that was under the bridge started cheering for us.  It was awesome.  :)  I'll never forget every single moment.

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day or strawberries, champagne, & rose petals?

Hmmm... he's more of a "chocolates, dinner and takes me out to get the gift I want" kind of a guy.

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop in a movie and relax on the couch?

I guess I'm a little of both.  I love taking trips to the beach but I'm also perfectly happy on the couch snuggling with my honey watching a movie.

10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything or go anywhere?

We'd love to go to Hawaii someday.  I'd really like to take Ryan skydiving one day too.  I've been before but it would be such a great memory to do together.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing this Valentine’s Day.

We didn't really plan to do much of anything since it landed on a Tuesday.  All I really wanted to do was eat at a sweet diner.  I found a list of the top 10 diners in KC and wanted to try them all.  We started with #1 Town Topic.

Ryan met me there for lunch and that night we just hung out and did a bunch of nothing.  Which was completely perfect because our days and nights have been jam packed recently.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s Day?

Nope!  We just like to take each other shopping and pick up a few things we've been wanting.  Holiday's are always a good excuse for that.

13. Give us one piece of advice for keeping a relationship strong & full of love.

Laughter!  Life can be stressful and having the ability to laugh with one another makes all the difference.

14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.
Laughing!

  1. I loved reading about how you both met, and especially how he proposed! That sounds perfect! Your wedding was gorgeous, and the church makes a beautiful backdrop for any wedding. As much as I like uppity V-day's, one's where you lay low at home are just as wonderful.

  4. We love you guys! FYI I think Papa has stories about Town Topic -- think it's the place he used to grab lunch when he worked down there. Lets remember to ask him!
