Hard Week

Well, we are back to a family of 4 again.  KC & Yogi had their cousin, Mooshu, live with them for a few weeks while my mom's dog, Sasha, was recovering from surgery.  Mooshu went home this weekend with my mom but not on a happy note.
Sasha wasn't able to recover from the surgery and was put to sleep.  This has been so hard on me, and I've been moping around ever since.  I can't imagine what my mom is going through.  She got Sasha right after I left for college and right after her divorce from my stepfather.  This dog got her through losing jobs, a house fire and moving to different cities.  I can only imagine what Sasha meant to her.
Mooshu will definitely be missing his playmate.
I'm glad my mom still has Mooshu to cheer her up.
But it was sad saying goodbye to him!  Ryan & I got pretty attached. At least we can still visit him!

I will miss the late night "bewitching hour" where he would fly through the house and knock over things.  I will miss our cuddles and play time.  He is such an entertaining cat!

And he will miss my shoes...

Sending Up Prayers for Joplin

My heart is so heavy this morning after learning about the tornado that hit Joplin, MO.  The devastation is unspeakable with it being the 4th deadliest tornado on record.  I heard on the radio this morning that 75% of the town of 50,500 has been leveled.  I'm not sure if that is completely true but either way it's pretty significant.  I have family that live near there, and Ryan & I used to drive through there all the time when we lived in Bartlesville, OK.  This makes it all the more real for me and too close to home.  We heard our tornado sirens go off late Saturday night, and I can't imagine going through the loss Joplin is experiencing right now.   If you are looking for ways to help, they are looking for health care professionals through show-me response and the red cross will providing aid as well.

Please send up prayers for Joplin.

This is how I feel on this dreary, rainy Friday morning.  I wish I could be snuggled in my nice cozy bed.

I took this picture this past Sunday when the Fuller family came over (and Brad!) to see our house, and I took a few pictures of the "Team Kansas" sisters.  I'll share those with you all later.  When they got to our bedroom on the house tour they immediately all jumped onto the bed.  We bought a tempur-pedic cloud when we moved into this house since the old one we were sleeping on was older then us!!  So now every time Lindsey is around the mattress she has to lay on it so she can sink down .  It's freaking amazing.  I'm a believer now when it comes to tempur-pedic.  :)

This weekend we plan to focus on finishing our bedroom as an anniversary gift to ourselves.  I'm excited at the thought of finally having a completed bedroom.  I guess I just never made it a focus since no one ever really saw it.  But really it should be my first focus.  It needs to be a retreat for Ryan & I and not a source of stress.  I'll definitely show you before and afters soon.  Have a great weekend!

P.S.  Also, check out the offical full length trailer for Expedition Impossible!  Don't forget to look for the three girls in red. :)

Busy, Busy Bee

This past weekend was another great one!  I'm telling you what, living in KC has been so fun.  I just feel completely full being around family and friends.  Don't get me wrong, I really miss things about Houston and all our friends there but there's just something about being "home".  For one thing, we are able to attend graduation parties and see family that comes into town for once!

Friday night we had Ryan's parents, sister Sally, Papa and his Aunt & Uncle from Florida over for dinner and catching up.  Of course I never brought out the camera.  I was too busy enjoying the fam.  :)

Saturday we hung out with family some more before attending one of my best friend's little sister's high school graduation party.  Mackenzie just graduated from Blue Valley Northwest (my high school rival) and will be attending KU in the fall (my college rival).  Despite all that, I'm so excited for her!  I so miss my college days and know she will flourish over the next few years.  I can't wait to see what she ends up doing after college.

I miss my friend!!  Please hurry and move back to Kansas stat!!

The boys need their man time together!! ;)

We had to rush from Mackenzie's grad party to Ryan's cousin's grad party.  Adrienne just graduated from Nurse Practitioners school.  This girl is a rock star!  She has worked so hard for this while still working as a RN.  It was truly a celebration.  There were so many family members there, and I only snapped one picture.  Boo!
Ryan & Adrienne

To wrap up our weekend, after church we headed to the family hangout... Dairy Queen.  Every single Sunday around lunch time the entire Tuohey side of the family (Ryan's mom's side) gathers at Dairy Queen.  It's been a very long family tradition that Ryan & I will pop over for from time to time.  We had an even bigger turn out this Sunday because Uncle Tom and Aunt Tish were in from Florida.

It was great to spend time Tom & Tish since it isn't very often we get to see them.  I'm so glad we were here for that.  Another weekend of wonderful memories to seal up in my mind.

Date Change & Video!

You are probably going to be seeing a lot of posts in the future about Expedition Impossible!  I'm just forewarning you. :)  I've got to support my girls!

So there's been a date change and the premiere is now Thursday, June 23rd at 8:00pm CST.  That's right... it's taking the spot of Grey's Anatomy!! So all you Grey's fans can watch too.  I'm so glad it changed from Tuesday to Thursday because I had conflicts every Tuesday.  Wooohooo!!!

Also, check out the very first Expedition Impossible commercial.  My girl, Lindsey, is in it at least twice.  Look for the girl in the red shirt.  She may or may not be laying on the ground in one of the shots.  What?!!

Go support Team Kansas and "Like" them on Facebook!!!  Go here to do it.

Come on Weekend!

This has been such a busy week which has made me look forward to the weekend even more.  Even though this weekend will probably be just as busy.  Unfortunately, it's been in the 90's all week but today it decided to be in the 50's when we are having a BBQ for our family tonight.  Boo!  Oh well, it should still be a lot of fun either way.  We also have a couple graduation parties to go to on Saturday, and I'm hoping the weather warms up.  I'm looking forward to seeing family & friends especially Brad & Lindsey who are visiting from Houston & Ryan's Uncle and Aunt visiting from Florida.

Do you guys have big plans for the weekend?

I'm going to leave you with some farm pictures that my talented MIL, Susan took.  Her photography skills have sky rocketed since taking our class together.  I'd like to think I had something to do with it. ;)

She titled this one "3 Shade of Green"

She titled this one "Windmill Thinking"

Have a great weekend!

Favorite Photo

Just recently I happened upon this picture of my Grandma (Maxine) & Grandpa (Royal) on their wedding day.  I've never seen it before and it caught me by surprise.  I don't think I have ever really seen that many pictures of my grandparents when they were younger.  They were such a gorgeous couple!  My Grandma's eye are just breath taking.

I just looove old vintage family photos, and this one has got to be one of my favorites.  It's especially personal to me since Ryan & I's wedding anniversary is just a few weeks away.

When we build a mantel over our fire place in the den I plan to display a host of old family photos on it.  I wasn't planning on tackling that project quite yet but this picture has speed that idea up!

I'm feeling pretty sentimental today and this has brought back so many memories of them.  My Grandma is my only living grandparent and she is like a second mother to me.  I lost my grandpa right after my wedding.  On the flight home from our honeymoon during a layover I found out he had passed away.  Talk about coming back to reality!  I really cherish my childhood memories of them and it's so hard to see loved ones get older and pass away.

Ryan & I would be so lucky to have a long lasting marriage like the two of them did.  I hope we have just as many years together or more.

Mother's Day Weekend

Mother's Day weekend was a whirlwind of hard work and equal parts fun!  It started off Friday night with taking my MIL, Susan, to dinner at one of our fav Mexican restaurants and then to see the movie Lincoln Lawyer (really good!).  I'm so disappointed I didn't get any "Mother's Day" pictures of Ryan & his mom. :(

Saturday morning we woke up early to go help out at a church event but then found out we weren't needed.  So then we just ended up working on our house for awhile and putting up some pendant lights in the kitchen.  Afterward, Ryan & I headed over to Jeremy & Melissa's house to help paint their wood trim white in three bedrooms and two bathrooms!  I think it worked out in our favor though because they made us delicious shish kabobs for lunch.  Once that was wrapped up we headed to the local nursery for flowers and then home to plant.  We ended up working in the yard until 8 that night!  We planted all kinds of goodies in our vegetable garden.  I promise to take pictures soon of that and our other flower beds.

Finally, Sunday was a jam packed day.  It started with Ryan & I becoming members at our church, Leawood Presbyterian.  Yipee!!  We are so excited to finally belong to a church again and really get involved.  My mom came to see us become members, and then afterward we took her out to eat at her favorite brunch spot, First Watch.  We gave my mom a choice of either going to explore at an arboretum or have Ryan & I help her out with her yard work.  I already new which one she was going to pick!  I don't know why we even gave her a choice. Ha!  We put in a couple hours of hard labor, laid 600 lbs of mulch and planted flowers.  My mom kept saying this was her favorite Mother's Day ever.  Then we went home to finish our yard work and put together some new patio furniture.  We rewarded ourselves with some Dairy Queen once we were finished.  Man, were we sore on Monday!

Right after church and becoming new members.
There are two things I love about this picture:
One- Jim standing randomly in the background
Two- That the "P" is missing from Presbyterian on the brick wall we are standing next to

Close up shot.  It was windy!

At First Watch trying to get ready for a picture but Ryan decided he wanted to start snapping early.

Much better.  Daughter & Mom

Really Exciting News!

I have been dying to tell you guys some really exciting things that have been going on!
(And no I'm not preggo. ;))

I finally got the go ahead to share the unbelievable news.

Check out the picture below...

Do you recognize these three ladies in red?  I know it's kind of hard to see.

Well....  They are the Fuller sisters!  Mackenzie, Kelsey & Lindsey (pic taken this past Christmas)

These lucky ladies had the privilege of being on a brand new TV show called Expedition Impossible!!!  It's a cross between the Amazing Race & Survivor on the ABC network.  It was filmed in the breath taking country of Morocco, and they just announced the cast today.  Go check it out here and find these lady's names.  :)

Can you believe that one of my best friends and two of her sisters are going to be on TV???  Lindsey actually had to leave less then a week after our Mexico trip together to film the show.  So crazy!!  I swear this girl has the coolest things happen to her!  You all will have to watch it and tell me what you think!  It premieres on June 21 @ 8:00pm central time.  Go here to check out the schedule.  I can't wait to watch it!

P.S. Now Ryan & I want to be on a tv show!  It's been added to our bucket list.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

It has been so fun this spring waking up every morning to see what new flower had bloomed.  Since this is our first spring in this house we didn't know what all was planted.  We had my mom over a few weeks ago to tell us what things were and if they were a weed or not.  Ha!  Ryan & I weren't sure what things needed to be cut back or dug out all together.  We've decided not to make any major landscape changes this year until we knew what we had.

We have two white dogwoods, one in the front and one in the backyard.  I heart dogwoods.

We also have a gorgeous pink dogwood in our backyard.  Their blooms have already started to fad, and I waited a little too long to get out and take pictures of them in their prime.

We also have a TON of azalea bushes.  Which I think is so fun since we used to live on azalea meadow lane in Houston.
All over our backyard and some in our front we have this gorgeous ground cover pictured above.  I can't remember what my mom called it.  It's nice because you can take a small portion and move it to another location and it will continue to spread.  Anybody want some? :)

**sigh** so pretty

Again, I can't remember the name of this one either, but it was an unexpected beauty that popped up.

More azaleas in our frontyard.  Can you see the little visitor enjoying the flowers as well?

I think this is another type of azalea that grows a little taller and it a gorgeous shade of orange.  I could be wrong on that one though.

This is another ground cover we have in our front flower beds.

I am so excited because we have all kinds of fun things popping up almost everyday.  We have lilacs and I think some hydrangeas coming soon.  We even have some delectable succulents all over our backyard too!  I'll have to keep you posted with these lovelies.  Ryan & I plan to plant a few seasonal flowers this weekend.  After that I'll show you some full shots of our yard.

This was little KC the whole time I was taking pictures from the side window of the front door.  He is usually always there when I get home from work.  Such a sweet welcome home.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Photo 101 :: Shutter Speed & Aperture

I finally got around to scanning the card I was telling you about in this post from my photography class.  It's been very helpful when trying to get certain effects in photos.  I hope this helps!

Let me know if you have any questions!
