Eight Squared

Kelley tagged me in this little game! My sweet, sweet friend from college. Who, by the way, is about to have her first baby!! Pop over and show her some love. :)

Here are the rules:
1. Go to your photo files and select the 8th photo folder.
2. Select the 8th photo in that folder.
3. Post that photo along with the story behind it.
4. Then challenge 8 blogging friends to do the same.

Complete!

Well, this little gem of a picture was taken really close to the time when our company had just moved us to Bartlesville, OK. Ryan & I were still trying to get to know people and learn our new jobs. Although we moved a lot closer to family, we still didn't know that many people in our new town.

This picture was of us getting ready to go to our first big B'ville gathering. It was a stop light party. People came dressed in a color that represented their dating "status".
Green = Single Yellow = Proceed with caution Red = In a relationship Black = Married (Ha!)

It was a fun, creative way to mingle and know where everybody stood. I remember having a blast and watching the interns all dressed in green hit on each other. :) That was when I realized I was going to like this place and the fun people in it. We really do miss the ville and need to get back to visit!

On that note, I'm going to pick eight people to join in this fun.

Malinda - A follow "Bartian" (Martian + Bartlesville). We had so many good times together and I miss this girl dearly.

Wendi - I met this beautiful lady through the wonderful blog world and found out her husband works for ConocoPhillips as well!! Such a small world AND they live in Doha, Qatar!!

Rachel - We met through her hubby who also works for ConocoPhillips. She & her husband are newlyweds and such a fun couple to hangout with here in H-town.

Sarah - Also resides in the good ol' state of Oklahoma. Her husband works for COP too and our husbands have worked together a lot. She is such a creative, gorgeous, mother to three precious boys.

Leah - Another pretty lady whose husband also works for COP and has an adorable little girl.

Jennifer - Also a wife to a COP employee (see the COP theme?) and mother to a handsome little boy.

Megan - The sweet thang works for the great company of COP and has a gorgeous little girl.

Aaron & Amanda - This awesome couple used to be our neighbors here in Houston and have just recently moved back to Bartlesville (for the second time). Aaron works for the company too. We miss them!

Alex's High School Graduation Party

This past weekend was a busy one in Kansas City. Not only did we go to Sally's graduation, we also went to my cousin, Alex's, graduation party on Sunday which was in Springfield, MO. Let's just say Ryan & I were pretty tired by the end of the weekend. :)

A bunch of my mom's family was coming to this graduation party so we were pretty excited to see everyone. It has been awhile for us since we live so far away. These are my cousins, Sherry & Dee. Sherry is my mom's niece and whose son is graduating from high school, and Dee is married to my mom's nephew. The graduation party was held at Sherry's beautiful home.

My mom and her sister-in-law, Roena. Swinging is a favorite past time for them.

Sherry & Jame's gorgeous backyard. I LOVE their covered deck and pool.

There were three different places to congregate outside. The setup was perfect!

My mom, Aunt Roena, Cousin Mike & his wife Dee.

Aunt Roena & Uncle Bill (My mom's brother)

My cousin Billy and his wife Vanessa. She is pregnant with their first baby and due in December. :)

Alex (his graduation party), Sherry, James and Derek in the back. They are such a gorgeous family! Alex will be going to University of Central Missouri.

Me, Alex, Sherry, James, Mom and Derek in the back. I loved seeing my family so much.

Ryan jumped in one of the pictures too. Sherry & James have the best boys ever. I can't wait to see what they do with their lives.
I was so good to see everybody again even if it was just for a short time.

I wanted you all to meet my mom's new addition to the family. I introduce you to MooShoo. (Not sure if that is how she spells it.)

My mom's dog, Sasha, now has a playmate! Mooshoo is very playful and full of energy, and I'm pretty sure will grow up to be a BIG kitty! I think it's part Main Coon cat.

My mom doused this scratching post with cat nip. Can you tell??
Yogi & KC now have a cousin to play with!

It was a very short trip but jammed pack with family. Those are the best weekends. :)

Sally's Graduation

My beautiful sister-in-law, Miss. Sally Jane, graduated from the great school of Kansas State University this past weekend. She graduated with her bachelors & masters in Interior Architecture and Product Design. I am beyond amazed at Sally's commitment and creativity while pursing her education. She is one extremely talented woman. I love that she has no boundaries and seeks the unexpected. I can't wait to see what amazing designs she will come up with.

Ryan & I planned to fly to Kansas City Friday night and get into town around 10:15 which I was complaining was so late. Man was I wrong! It just so happened that I huge storm blew into Texas messing all our plans up. We didn't even think about it delaying our flight until the shuttle bus driver asked if we checked to see if our flight had gotten canceled. When we checked in, they told us our flight had been delayed from 7:30 to 11:00pm. It turns out that would have even been early! We didn't end up flying out until 1:30 in the morning!!! We got to KC around 4 and to my mom's house at 5. We maybe got 30 minutes of sleep before we had to get ready to drive to Manhattan, Kansas for the graduation. I thought we were going to die. I've never been delayed like that before. Have any of you??

After realizing that there was nothing we could do we just had to suck it up. We were there to celebrate Sally and spend some quality time with family. We got to go back to our stomping grounds at KSU for only the second time since we graduated 4 years ago. Apparently, the storms reached Kansas as well. It rained all three days I was there. Oh well! Here's my mom walking through campus.
I LOVE our campus.

The architecture graduation was held at a much smaller venue then the rest of the colleges at K-State. I liked how intimate it was. McCain Auditorium is actually where both Ryan & Sally had many performances in there singing careers.

Ryan & Emily's boyfriend, Sean, waiting for the show to begin.

Sean & Emily

There were several areas of Architecture graduating this day so it ended up being pretty long. Sally worked hard for this day and could take all the time she needed. :)

Here's a clip of Sally walking the stage.

Afterward, we all headed to our favorite spot to eat that usually isn't crowded, the oldest Pizza Hut that is still standing! It's true, right in our own little apple, Manhattan.

Me, Mary, Susan, Sally, Ryan, Harlan, Emily & Sean

The Ebright siblings

Then we had the pleasure to tour where Sally spent many of hours and all nighters. The poster on the bottom was of her award winning chicken ottoman design. Sally was the model for the poster on top. :)

Ryan & I finally got the meet Henny & Penny in person. They are crazy life like! Sally will be taking her creations to a huge venue in New York this August and will hopefully sell millions. I can't wait!!

Her desk were all her ideas came to life.

We stopped by the building where Ryan spent much of his time in college. I just call it the engineering building. I forget it's name.

Doesn't Ryan look good accessorizing?
I created this little ditty so that I didn't have to post all the pictures but you get to still enjoy them. :)
Love you Sally!!

The HALE Storm

Man, sometimes I still wish I was in college, except for the fact that they are taking finals this week. I can't believe that it has been four years since I've graduated. Where did the time go??

Apparently Wednesday night, over 3,000 students from my alma mater, Kansas State University, created a flash mob/rave at Hale Library.

"As the rain poured down in Manhattan Wednesday night, K-State students didn't seem to notice. Thousands, dressed in neon colors, carrying their glow sticks, or wearing costumes, gathered on the south ramp of Hale Library and as the clock struck 11 p.m. they rushed indoors and started raving.
The rave was organized as a way to take a break from the hours spent studying for finals. A break in the library that lasted fifteen minutes before the group piled outdoors to continue the party at the K-State Union." (Click here for the article.)

I had never heard of this before! My friend explained to me that it is when people organize large groups of people to show up at a specific place at a specific time via social networking a.k.a. Facebook. I guess it's all the rage! Check out a couple video's below. It made me wish I was there participating. Why didn't we think of this my senior year??

I wonder if my sister-in-law was there.... Sally??? She is graduating this weekend! WhooHoo!! I'll be seeing you soon sweet thang!

This video is from inside the library as people are jumping around.

This one's kind of long but they turn off the lights at the end and play rave music, too funny! You can also see all the students rushing in.

I miss the good ol' college days!!

Friday Night Game

Friday night was Ryan & I's first baseball game of the season, the Astro's vs. San Diego. Even though the Stro's got pummeled, the atmosphere of the stadium made up for it. :) There's just something about the crisp clean grass, hot dogs and soda that make it such a fun summer event. I always look forward to going to a few games every year.

I was lucky enough to get four free tickets from work (could be b/c the Astro's stink?) and took Ryan, Brad & Mark. The girls couldn't make it. :( They were pretty decent seats and right in the range for foul balls to come whizzing by.

It was a pretty warm Friday so they had the Astrodome covering the stadium. One of my favorite parts of this stadium is the train that whistles and moves when we get a run. Unfortunately, that didn't happen this game.

Ryan & I hunted for Stro's shirts but ended up empty handed. We are so picky! It was Pink in the Park Friday night, but I don't think you can tell from these pictures.

Wouldn't be a game without the food!

Another reason I like to go on Friday nights, is the fireworks show. It was really long and played to music. It felt like a full on show!

We were pretty close to them. Ryan thought his neck was going to snap by the end of it.

Brad, Ryan & Mark

A lot of people from my work were there because of the free tickets. So that was fun to see everyone out of the office atmosphere.
My good friend Shannon & I
I definitely want to go back! I just hope they can win for me next time. :)

Random Videos

I haven't posted anything about our furry children in awhile, so I thought it was high time. I had a few random videos of them I thought were kind of cute. They do so many things that make Ryan & I laugh, and I really need to get my camera out to record it. That's my goal this next month to get their hilarities on video for you. :) Here's a couple to tide you over. They aren't that funny but they entertain Ryan & I.

This is Ryan playing with Yogi who loves to get under our bed covers especially when we're trying to make the bed. He thinks it's so fun to play with us through the sheet. Sorry it's sideways!

This one is of our cats checking out our new Roomba that we named "Wallie". Which by the way, is awesome! I would recommend one to anybody, especially people with pet hair. Please ignore my voice.

I wanted Yogi to do what this cat did in the video below. However, he might have broken the thing under his weight!!

10k & Dallas

Man, I can't quite seem to catch up on my blogging, but I'm trying! Two weeks ago Ryan & I ventured up to Dallas for some very fun/crazy reasons. One of the reasons being, to visit my dear friend Katie a.k.a roommate extraordinaire, and her just as cool husband, Jon. I had not seen them since Katie left Houston at the end of December! How could that be??

I had been hearing all about the crazy improvements they've been doing to their new house so I couldn't wait to get up there and see! They are both so freaking talented and could flip houses if they wanted. Here we are toasting to Katie's job with Dr. Pepper/Snapple and trying out one of their new Sunkist products. This is my kind of toasting. I'm so jealous she gets free soda!!

We got to spend some good quality time chatting and catching up. It's so weird for me that they are in Dallas and Jon's in school getting his masters. Crazy how things change so fast. With all that talking, we worked up an appetite for some Mexican food (what else?). Jon & Katie took us to one of their local favs.

When I saw this little beauty below out front of the restaurant, I knew this place had to be good. :)
It sort of reminded me of the pigish status that I took pictures of in Sedona! It was so beautiful out we decided to eat outside in the courtyard behind me.
That night we ended up just renting a redbox and then calling it a night. We couldn't stay up that late because we had to wake up before the crack of dawn the next morning!

How early you ask? 4:45 am early!!! I must have been stark raving mad when I decided to sign Ryan & I up for a 10k (6.2 miles) in the Fort Worth Zoo. I had no idea that I had to get up so dang early. We were about an hour away from it and had to be there by 6:00am. You can see just how tired we were before the race. Notice my puffy eyes.

So I have never run 6.2 miles before in my life but I've really tried to get back into running. When I say "get back into running" that means I used to run 3 miles once or twice a week in high school and college. One of my goals in the next year is to run a 1/2 marathon. It would be an amazing accomplishment plus a great way to get back into shape!

Anyway, the farthest I have every run was 4.8 miles and that was 3 days before the race. Needless to say, I was pretty scared when it came to race time. Ryan on the other hand ran cross country in high school (for a short stint) and has these ridiculously long legs (no far!). My one and only goal was to finish the race without stopping to walk.

I snagged some pictures from the race website so that's why you see the copy wright imprint on them. :) Hey, they are expensive!

Here's Ryan making a beeline to the finish. He's high steppin' it!
Ok, these next few pictures seriously had me rolling on the floor laughing. So of course I had to share them with you!! There are a few things that make me laugh about this next photo. First and foremost, Ryan's midriff is showing. Oh my good-n.e.s.s.... Then the look of sheer agony on his face and the fact that he's throwing up Rocky fists with no one around him.
"Who's finishing the 10k? This guy, this guy!!"
You look a little hot there, honey. ;)

Ok, so I have made fun of Ryan enough. Now you can laugh at me, it's only fair. I'm pretty sure I wanted to crawl under a rock at this point, and I think those kids walking on the side line were going faster then me! I look like I'm just speed walking. Please notice my sweet armband that I just bought for my new nano ipod. Do you see how that "sweet" armband is cutting into my arm? Well, it totally chafed me!! I couldn't believe it! My first "runner's chafe"! I think I may have scarred.

This is when I noticed the camera and decided I should smile. I didn't want to look like I was in the pain that I actually was. It was so humid that morning because it was about to rain the whole time. It actually did rain on us the last mile and a half, which ended up feeling pretty good at that point.

Can I just tell you how freaking hilly this race course was??? The run started off through the zoo which was pretty cool but then I turned a corner and saw the most ginormous hill ever! I bet it was like a quarter of a mile high. Then when I reached the top I thought surely this was it but then there were more and more hills. Kill me now!!

Every mile maker that I saw, I thought for sure I was way past that. I was so defeated. I had to play crazy mind tricks to keep myself going. When I finally got to 4 miles, I just kept telling myself it was only another 2.2 miles. It felt like I was running forever. The worst part was that I couldn't see the finish line until I was right on top of it. There were a few woman around me that I was trying to keep pace with and towards the end started to pick them off (pass them). Then I was so scared they were going to pass me back I felt like I was running for my life, see below. That last .2 really killed me off. I thought I would never get to the finish line, but I did AND I DID IT WITHOUT WALKING!!! It's a miracle I tell you!!

I felt pretty dizzy right after I crossed the finish line but recovered pretty quick. We grabbed a few free goodies and headed out. Here we are in our car with our new race t-shirts all wet and sweaty.

Our final race times were:

Ryan - 1:02:50 (10:07/M pace)
Finish 44th out of 57 in his age group. Not to shabby for his first 10k!

Lindsey - 1:04:34 (10:19/M pace)
Finished 75th out of 119 in my age group. I feel really good about my first race. :)
I felt good that I finished just over a minute and a half behind Ryan, and that I could see him in front of me. This has just spurred me on to keep running and improving my times (plus hopefully not be as painful). Unfortunately, I've really been struggling with shin splints ever since so I've had to take some time off. I think I just increased my miles too fast and need to take it a little slower. Once I'm all healed up, I'll be hitting the pavement again.

We drove back to Katie and Jon's to shower and get cleaned up. Then they drove us around their area and to Jon's college campus, Southern Methodist University (SMU). I had been there before when I was younger because my Godmother used to work there. I had forgotten just how beautiful it was!

Katie & I infront of some gorgeous roses bushes.
Jon & Ryan
The cute couple. Jon will be spending a month in China this summer as part of his MBA program. I can't wait to hear all about it.
Ryan & I in a dress that makes me look preggers! Oh well, you win some and lose some.
We got to enjoy a nice lunch with our friends before taking off to Rockwall to visit my Godmother, Pat, and Rocky. I was so exhausted from the run, I ended up taking a much needed hour long nap when I get to their house. Then I was ready to play some Wii that my Godmother just got. Pat was cracking me up with all her funny moves. She was pretty dang good!
I just love this woman! She has such a big heart.
Ryan trying to take on the talented tennis player.
We had so much fun that my arm was sore for days! Pat & Rocky really know how to treat their guests. Ha! They always go above and beyond for us. I just love them to pieces. I didn't get a picture of Rocky this trip! Boo!

Here was the only descent picture of Pat & I, and she had her eyes closed. Ha!
It was a jammed pack weekend but I wouldn't of had it any other way. Thank you Katie & Jon and Pat & Rocky for letting us stay with you guys and entertaining us! You are the best.
